One-third dried thyme equals one-third fresh thyme. To put it another way, if you want to replace fresh thyme with dried thyme in a dish, you’ll need one-third as much dried thyme. 1 teaspoon of fresh thyme, for example, is equivalent to 1/3 teaspoon of dried thyme.
Because dried herbs have a considerably higher taste concentration than comparable fresh herbs, a lower amount of dried herbs is required for cooking. Fresh herbs have a better flavour and aroma, and dried herbs have a much longer shelf life. Fresh thyme can be stored for up to seven days, while dried thyme can be kept for up to six months.
