Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Dan, Naphtali, Gad, Asher, Issachar, Zebulun, and Benjamin were Joseph’s brothers. The 12 brothers are the patriarchs of the 12 tribes of Israel that bear their names, according to Genesis.
Joseph is described in Genesis as his father Jacob’s favoured son. Joseph’s brothers were envious of him and sold him to a caravan heading to Egypt as a slave. Many years later, due to a severe famine, the brothers were sent to Egypt to beg for food. To their surprise, Joseph, now Egypt’s vizier, greeted them and asked their families to live in Egypt.
