What animal preys on a bald eagle?



Eagles have few natural predators because they are at the top of the food chain. Eagles have been known to prey on one another, raccoons have killed eaglets in the nest, ground predators have killed injured and earthbound birds, and humans have killed eagles.

In general, eagles’ ability to fly keeps them out of harm’s way. They, in turn, prey on a range of smaller birds, mammals, reptiles, and fish as one of the ecosystem’s apex predators. They are frequently seen swooping down over open bodies of water to capture and transport fish.
