What Is the Average Life Expectancy of Sparrows?

According to Starling Talk, a sparrow in captivity has an average lifespan of 12-14 years, with the maximum known lifespan being 23 years. The lifespan of a sparrow is determined by a variety of factors.

A wild sparrow’s typical life expectancy is usually less than 10 years, and usually closer to 4-5 years. A lack of natural predators contributes to their relatively long lifetime because they frequently reside near humans.

Because caged sparrows have continuous access to food, water, and shelter, they usually live longer than wild sparrows. Wild sparrows must overcome natural challenges that often lead to the untimely death of their lives.
