In honour and remembrance of the gang’s founder, David Barksdale, the notorious GD gang uses the six-pointed star as its primary means of identification. The star with six points that represents the Gangster Disciples resembles the Star of David. Its six points represent the virtues of love, life, loyalty, wisdom, and understanding.
In addition to the six-pointed star, the Gangster Disciples have several other symbols, including a pair of pitchforks, a heart with wings, an upside-down shepherd’s crook, an upside-down pyramid, and an upside-down cross. Blue or black, the GD’s signature colours, are used for its symbols, as per tradition. The GD was founded in Chicago and has active members in more than half of the United States.
