According to Google Maps, the closest ocean beach to Valdosta, Georgia, is located in the Florida panhandle, some 87 miles away. Close by are Econfina State Park and St. Mark’s Wildlife Refuge.
Fernandina Beach, Fla., just north of Jacksonville, is another nearby coastal beach that is highly commercialised for vacationers. According to Google Maps, this beach is 128 kilometres away from Valdosta. Georgia’s proximity to the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico means that several major beaches are within a day’s drive.
Banks Lake, Boggy Bay, Whitehead Bay, Lake Verne, and Sand Hill Bay are all located east of Valdosta. Due to the lack of huge waves, these lakes are not the same as ocean beaches, but they are closer to Valdosta than the ocean.
